Geely Panda review (1)

Found a Geely Panda review online from South Africa. It’s a straightforward, unbiased review. Bottom line for the car: You don’t buy Chinese for the brand, you don’t buy Chinese for the quality. You buy it because it’s cheap.

At Php448,000 for the upper model with a five-year or 150,000km warranty, whichever comes first, I may be willing to take a chance. Until I make my own Philippine Geely Panda review.

Methinks I may have to sniff around other cars to replace my Hyundai Getz. The Toyota Avanza seems to be the only other car I’m willing to take a chance on, because I really don’t like the Hyundai i10 and everything else is ludicrously priced.

Is the Geely Panda worth it? … and then there’s the Suzuki APV…

If a product is not branded but we get a five year or 1,50,000km warranty and it’s cheap then we can of course go for it. I think we must go through the reviews before we purchase the car.

Hi Abhijit, my issue is precisely that: there are no Philippine reviews for the Geely Panda. I continue to wait.

When I saw the Panda Geely at the Manila International Automobile Show I was impressed with the design and quality of this cute and attention grabbing car. Closer scrutiny of external fitting of rubber mouldings and lights fixture revealed quality and at par with most if not all japanese or korean brands with the same price tags. However as one would expect cheaper qualtiy at this price and a china brand at that you would be surprised that it even surpassed better known japanese cars produced ten years earlier or even less. Me thinks that given a few years more cars made in China particularly Geely would give japanese and korean cars a very stiff competition what with the recent acquisition of Volvo by Geely. My test drive of Panda revealed that for a small car it has a roomy interior and its air conditioning system is very good, tarmac view is excellent and it has a powerful engine that is capable of ferrying five large adults to Baguio City without straining its engine’s 84 horses. This Panda is quite torquey too and its gears are nicely spaced apart giving you fun as you play shifting in its power band. What I’m impressed most with this car is its built solidly and the suspension rightly sprung for cornering.
The only downside to this cute lovable beast is it cannot muffle it exhaust noise when you floor the gas pedal but who cares it even render the panda character.

Well, Ariel, this is certainly very helpful feedback, thanks for sharing.

I recently dropped by the Geely showroom and was told I could test drive the Geely Panda on the road once a few more paperwork was accomplished on the part of AutoChina. Buti ka pa, naka-testdrive ka enough to tell there was noise when the gas pedal was floored.

I have just test drove a Geely Panda this afternoon. My wife and I saw their car display at Market2. The price caught mys wife’s eyes and became interested as we are about to buy a used 08 focus. I scrutinized its interior and exterior built and I must say that I am very much delighted. The 398T lower version is all-power already. It has a very cool aircon that you can just lower down its blower even to 1 after a few minutes of cooling at 3 or 4. I test drove the Geely Panda at 3PM.

I think the downside is it lacks the power to overtake a slower vehicle in front in a few seconds. It is as if the engine does not give its 1.3 power readily when required.

But for city driving and if you are not that eager to overtake a slower car right away, I give the Geely Panda an 8 out of 10.

I am a fast driver, I want a better car if it would be my only car. But if I can afford two, then I definitely would get the Geely Panda even if its made in China. It is much better than Cherry QQ in quality judging from its looks alone.

    The car runs smoothly and

My brother already test drove the car and it proved stable as well. But based on Sri Lankan consumer reviews I’ve read, it only gets a paltry average of 8km/L for city driving. Nahihirapan din daw silang umorder ng spare parts.

I really want to get this car, but I’m wondering why even after the rock-bottom price and everyone agreeing it’s of good quality, I still have not seen a single Panda on Philippine roads.

I think the reason why there are no Geelys on the road is because they’re still waiting for some approval from the LTO… the salesman told me something along those lines when I asked.
