About our Hyundai Getz

We bought our Philippines Hyundai Getz, Gina, from the Hyundai Manila (actually, Hyundai Quezon City) distributor along E. Rodriguez, Wheels Inc.. The standard model of this Hyundai Manila hatchback sells for a brisk and affordable Php488,000, which made it very affordable, especially for a family like ours; the deluxe 1.3 A/T model of this Hyundai Philippines car sells for a delightful Php558,000.

Among the many factors that make a Hyundai Getz a better choice for college students, small families, and yuppies, instead of the Suzuki Alto or the Kia Picanto:

  • Five-speed manual transmission affords it a bit of power when necessary, but since neither Cathy nor I are speed demons, the Hyundai Getz is a wise and practical choice.
  • The dashboard of the Hyundai Getz is ridiculously simple. Features include the standard defoggers, air conditioner, hazard lights, radio, and CD player.
  • There is space for all our stuff in front. Glove compartment, front door pockets, cupholders (!)… all standard on Gina!
  • We went test driving at night to see how powerful the headlights are, and we were thrilled with its brightness.
  • Comfort isn’t half bad: rear seat headrests, splits-fold rear seats, rear wiper and washer, tailgate lifter… all standard!
  • Gina’s got back! The trunk of our Hyundai Getz is notoriously large!

    Hi,

We seem to have the same color Getz:) Anyway, I am from Cebu and just got my 1.1 manual a couple days back. I was wondering if you hear any noisese in the engine when over-revving? My wife over-revs at the moment coz she is still getting used to it. But it kind of shocked me when I heard the somewhat harsh noise from the engine when she did over-rev. Have you ever experienced this?

Thanks and nice little site you have here dedicated to the Getz:)

    Mark

    Hello Mark,

I did mention that in my comment on fuel consumption. The noises were actually valve slap when you over-rev which can happen if you have a heavy right foot because the accelerator pedal is a bit too light. Any engine will scream or sound harsh when you over-rev, and especialy a 1.1 liter 4-cylinder job. Just be gentle and don’t lug the engine in high gear. A small displacement engine is meant to get up to higher revs before approaching the shift point in low gear, but do not overdo it. When in doubt, bring it over to your dealer and let the mechanic hear the noise.

Hi Mark! I haven’t experienced too much engine noise just yet. In the noise department, comparing my Hyundai Getz to our previous vehicle, a diesel Toyota Revo, isn’t a fair comparison. That Revo was NOISY. But it was also a pretty stable workhorse that served us extremely well.

Thanks for that technical reply, Vic. Much obliged. :)

    Hi Bel,

Thanks for passing by my Hyundai Getz Philippines website. Do swing by the new website at http://hyundaigetz.gannsdeen.com.

Obviously, I think the golden beige is awesome because our Hyundai Getz Gina is in a shade of golden beige. (If you’re Chinese, its golden hue also makes it a winning color.)

If you’re thinking of a Hyundai Getz color that’s relatively unique, you can also try the light green (it’s easy on the eyes), the white (saw one at Hyundai Global – Fort Bonifacio, and it’s really rare), or the deep pearl blue.

Good luck, let me know when you’ve bought it.
